Did anyone see this story on CNN today?
Quote:
Pope Benedict XVI called the sexual abuse scandal that rocked the U.S. Catholic church a 'deep shame.'

What most might not realize is that Benedict was the same man who headed up the Vatican office that was responsible for formulating the very policy that instructed the church hierachy around the world how to handle these abuses. The very conduct of which has been a focal point of the scandal.

You can watch it here. (Did you notice the "Mithraic" cross superimposed over a circular sun disc on the side of the chair he was sitting on?)

CNN carried a longer story on the remarks he gave in Washington about the scandal. Here are a couple of quotes:

Quote:
Benedict said the sexual abuse of children by priests has caused a "deep shame" and called it "gravely immoral behavior."

He also is quoted as saying:

Quote:
"Many of you have spoken to me of the enormous pain that your communities have suffered when clerics have betrayed ... their obligations," he told the bishops.

Responding to the situation has not been easy and was sometimes very badly handled, the pope admitted.

But, then he seemed to try to divert attention away from the direct responsibilty that the Church bears by saying:

Quote:
The pope then turned his attention to a different concern involving kids.

"What does it mean to speak of child protection when pornography and violence can be viewed in so many homes through media widely available today?" he asked.

Quote:
"It is vitally important that the vulnerable are always shielded from souls who would cause harm," he said.

Sad...so very sad.

You can find the complete article here.

I hope the "gravely immoral behavior" and "deep shame" that he feels won't affect his appetite at the special birthday lunch that is being prepared for him at a local Italian restaurant. You can read an article and watch a short video about the menu here.

Well, he got one thing right:

Quote:
"It is vitally important that the vulnerable are always shielded from souls who would cause harm," he said.

Now if the world could just perceive who these "souls who would cause harm" are... Was he looking at a mirror when he said that?

Hello All,

Seems that the posts by Yada about Ben's visit to the good ole US of A has gained some attention. Either that or Yada is really watching Ben like a hawk knowing that something smells afoot...

Well, everyone knows that people sin. The abuses that happened in the Catholic church is probably not unique to that church alone... but hey, if a Big Mac had a worm you bet the world will know about it but if a local deli served a hamburger that had rotten meat you probably won't hear much about it. Why? Stakeholding. More stakeholders in big organisations than small organisations. Also, mucho dollar from lawsuits. It's all about the money, and franchised operations usually have more moolah than mom'n'pop shops. Does the Vatican condone such abusive actions by the priests? Of course not! Did the American franchise holder take the right action? Looks like they forgot to read the manual Ben wrote. Tsk, tsk! Now Ben has to make a visit and rap their knuckles...

I posted this under the "Vespers in the Crypt" thread but thought I would put the link here as well. I hope that all on the forum (especially ex-Catholics and ourCatholic visitors/friends) will watch the segment I've referenced.

Here is my earlier post:

It saddens me that so many good lay Catholics don't/can't open their eyes and see this lie for what it is - for examole, if you click on this link it will start the video of Pope Benedict's "Vespers in the crypt" portion of his visit. At about 40 minutes into it, he actually prostrates himself before an idol of the "Bavarian Madonna" with the commentator remarking, "he's kneeling before this image..."

It's all there - one only has to open their eyes to see.
