Please may we have a "UK Forum" to allow those of us over the pond to get closer, this is not to be exclusive at all and should be open to all, but it may help us to support each other and those who are visiting from abroad. It would be a place to post items and announcements with a UK flavour

Hmm...this is an interesting request, can you tell me more? What would the setting-up of a new forum really accomplish, that the existing "Fellowship" forum doesn't? (wouldn't a new thread devoted to this purpose within the "Fellowship" forum suffice?) How would future requests from various geographical areas for the establishments of their own forums be accomodated? Would such a trend to accommodate "everyone" serve to facilitate communication between all?

I would very much like to hear the thoughts of others on this.

Hi Yada

Yes, I see your concern, but I also see a need for local links, and I see no reason why this cannot be done on the main fellowship forum, I think maybe I should not have used the word ‘forum’ when what I was envisaging was a fixed subject header thread like the ‘fellowship’ header

When first encountering the mass of information on a forum, it is good to find something that is familiar and catches the eye. To have a UK forum, or any other, pulls the interest (of Brits in this case) and can promote fellowship and family within the locality, but still sharing with the greater family - it is then relevant and immediate.

If someone from (old) Hampshire were to see a UK forum, and go to it, they would very quickly see that there are others local to them, rather than getting a chance hit on some other thread. We here are so conditioned to not seeing any contribution from the UK that we sometimes forget to even look.

This is a product of our humanist society here ; belief attracts derision and ridicule in a way that in the US you would probably only find in California (or was it DC :-). Worse, ‘fundamentalist intolerance’ is seen as the root cause of the failure of the best efforts of socialism, even to the point of being lumped in with Islamic fundamentalist terrorism.

I would ask therefore that an eye catcher like ‘UK forum’ might help us pull in the passers by.

On the other hand, J&M, it's hard to know what our brothers and sisters in lands foreign to us are faced with unless we're told. Your honest and candid assessment of the state of affairs where you live is crucial to our developing an appropriate level of empathy. More to the point, if we're to pray effectively for you, we need to know what you're up against. As I'm parked here in rural Virginia, the devil's oppression sometimes seems very subtle (especially if I leave the TV off :-) but in the Sudan, our brothers are getting shot at. We're Yahweh's children; we're a community. If we're too insulated, we can lose our perspective.
