Teen girls reportedly make pregnancy pact

Story Highlights
- Superintendent: Group of teens agree to get pregnant, raise babies together
- Girls reacted to pregnancy news with high-fives, plans for baby showers
- None of the pregnant girls are over the age of 16

GLOUCESTER, Massachusetts (AP) -- A pact made by a group of teens to get pregnant and raise their babies together is at least partly behind a sudden spike in pregnancies at Gloucester High School, school officials said.

Principal Joseph Sullivan told Time magazine in a story published Wednesday that the girls confessed to making the pact after the school began investigating a rise in pregnancies that has left 17 girls at the school carrying a child. Normally, there are about four pregnancies a year at the school.

Sullivan told Time that nearly half of the expecting students, none over 16, were involved. Sullivan said students were coming to the school clinic multiple times to get pregnancy tests, and "seemed more upset when they weren't pregnant than when they were."

Some of the girls reacted to the news they were pregnant with high fives and plans for baby showers, Sullivan said. One of the fathers "is a 24-year-old homeless guy," Sullivan told the magazine.

Superintendent Christopher Farmer confirmed the deal to WBZ-TV, saying the girls had "an agreement to get pregnant."

He said the girls are generally "girls who lack self-esteem and have a lack of love in their life."

The first reports of the students' apparent plan to get pregnant were in the Gloucester Daily Times in March, when Sullivan said students were reporting that the girls were getting pregnant on purpose.

The rash of pregnancies has shaken the seaside city about 30 miles north of Boston. Last month, two officials at the high school health center resigned to protest the resistance from the local hospital to the confidential distribution of contraceptives. The hospital administers the state money that funds the clinic.

May YHWH help me as I am raising my two little girls. I am the only person they have who is trying to live by the word of YHWH. Their mother lacks discernment and the adversary is trying to destroy them through her. I live it everyday.

Though what she says in her article is true, teenagers and pre teens need to see actions of their loved ones. Words from an actress speaking against this have no true impact. There needs to be a true foundation from the beginning of life throughout the early years. This foundation must be founded on our ROCK!! Our children have no chance at all without this. As parents we will spend so much time preparing our children in the areas of education, sports, dance, art, music, and many other areas of personal significance. The problem is all these things are of the world and we fight for our kids in this regards, so they are ‘successful’. The problem is our battle, our struggle, our fight, is not against the things of this world. It’s not against flesh and blood, but against spiritual host of wickedness in the heavenly places. As we know, Mr. Halal is not playing around.
This world is a mess. May YHWH strengthen all of you with young children to fight for their souls, at all costs. Let us not shrink back from this life or death issue!

Stories like this make me very sad, these girls have so little self-worth that they think joining the baby club will bring them attention and security, so very very sad. Its is not uncommon and although maybe on a lesser scale we see a lot of teen pregnancy in our city , there is definitely status for teenage mums, its seen as cool. Mums here get a house provided, loads of benefits and support. Its something to aspire to, getting out of living with their parents and playing at been adults, so sad that the babies get drawn into the game. In an area like ours where there is high unemployment and any broken families, teenagers have no positive role models - why bother going to school and working hard when it didn't get their parents anywhere- our social security means people are financially better off not working and having multiple kids, so its more attractive to young people. It certainly is a messed up world!
